I haHad A Witty Title Planned But I Forgot It.

1. Hey look- school started!



Two middle schoolers. 6th and 7th grades. *sigh* School started for me, too. But no one took my picture on the first day. (Actually, a lot of my parents did, but no one has sent me those pictures so you are out of luck.)

This is my 5th year at Covenant, 9th altogether. I have decided that I have worked long enough in this field that I have a CAREER as a preschool teacher. Makes it sound more interesting at least. I hgave 16 kids this year, which is more than the 9 we had last year. (Because I have a CAREER as a preschool teacher I know that 16 is WAY A LOT MORE than 9.) New challenges, to be sure.

2. Is it weird that Lulu LOVES ice as a treat? If so, don't tell me. Ice is cheaper than Milk Bones, Beggin' Strips or Denta Stix.


3. Over the summer, I developed a guilty, GUILTY pleasure. Two actually.

UNO:


The TMZ television show is AWESOME. It's funny and snarky and everything Entertainment Tonight wishes it could be. I feel guilty for loving this show as much as I do. Wait, no I don't. It makes me laugh, so there.

DOS:


I am seriously addicted to this show! Animal Cops: Houston is the bomb. The other Animal Cops permiations (Phoenix, Detroit, Miami, Philadelphia) don't even compare.



This is Jim Boller. He used to be the Senior Investigator for the Houston SPCA. I like to think of him as my reality TV boyfriend. Why am I so attracted to this man? I don't even like moustaches!

3. The girls are doing a fall community show through their old elementary school. James is still on sets while somehow I got roped into being on the executive committee??!?!? I am hoping this translates into me being all-powerful and getting a name badge.



4. I can't think of a fourth right now. I'll get back to you on that.

The Possibilities Are Practically Endless!

In researching movies that Bella wants to watch at her birthday/slumber party this weekend, we discovered that Pee Wee's Playhouse is ON DVD!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT???!??!!??!?



I was trying to describe the awesomeness to the girls, but you can't describe is, can you? Pee Wee must be EXPERIENCED. It was off to YouTube we went, looking for clips. They didn't really "get it" until we came across the BEST CLIP EVAH!!!



So now we've been randomly shouting "GIANT UNDERPANTS!!" for the past two days, then laughing and laughing afterward. This is why being a parent is so much fun!

Wanna know what's even better?? Our local library has the DVDs! We've been working our way through them, and the girls love them. James doesn't really get it (I guess he was TOO OLD for Pee Wee) but we don't care. Pee Wee is polarious!

I'm not ashamed that I like wathcing TV. After my Kitchen Aid, my DVR is my most treaured household appliance. I don't schedule my life around television shows, but I think people who act all superior because they don't do anything as plebian as watching television are gits and they can kiss my grits. ;D

Castle- Nathan Fillion is sweet and chraming as a writer who shadows an NYPD Detective names Kate Beckett. She's the muse for his latest crime series. Their unresolved sexual tension is through the roof! The show is funny and charming and the mysteries are never too heavy.

What is your favourite episode of your favourite series?
Urgh. So hard to pick!! Probably "State" from Season One of Friday Night Lights (I still cry every. single. time. I watch it) or "Out of Gas" from Firefly. And I love, love, love the Gavin and Stacey pilot.

Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad?
Grey's Anatomy. No one on the show is allowed to be happy, and I can't deal with that much dysfunction so late in the week.

Friday Night Lights. I've cried at some part during every episode. This show is amazing, amazing, amazing. I've also cried more than once at Doctor Who.

Friday Night Lights is so good and it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. As far as comedies go, I think 30 Rock is as good as it gets. Tina Fey is a genius.

I know I haven't updated in awhile, but I've been busy shopping for gold stretch pants and a bedazzled eyepatch.

I'm still alive

1. Well, pneumonia is no fun, but I'm starting to feel human again. It's a constant 'two steps forward, one step back' kind of thing. I'm too sick to do much of anything, but not sick enough to spend ALL day in bed. So I'll load up some laundry, then lie down for a bit. Load the dishwasher, lie back down. Read a book, take a nap. You get the picture.

2. Dealing with insurance is no fun, but everything seems to be resolved and *fingers crossed* repair work will begin on the roof today. If not, then on Monday at the latest.

3. I really, really love and appreciate my husband and children. They have been amazingly patient and helpful and kind over the last two weeks, and I am a very lucky woman.

4. James and I have got into The Office this season. Holy cow- that show is uncomfortably hilarious! Grey's Anatomy has gone so far downhill over the past two seasons that it's a relief to laugh from 9pm till 10pm. 30 Rock continues to rock, and I was so happy for their Golden Globe wins!

5. After seeing The Unicorn and the Wasp I decided to explore the world of Agatha Christie. I started A Murder is Announced last night, but I would love any suggestions as to which work I should pick up next.

6. Finally, Friday Night Lights in back TONIGHT!!! I'm so happy I could cry. I've managed to avoid any spoilers so far, but from what I've heard this season is just as good as Season One (which was the most absolutely perfect season of television ever).

No Witty Title, Just Unrestrained Excitment

Today is a very special day.

THE NEW FALL TV SEASON IS STARTING!!!!!

Last year I decided that there was no point in pretending that I don't enjoy watching TV, because I do, and I feel no shame in that. What's more, our entire family likes watching TV! (You know what Madeline wanted to do on her birthday? She wanted to eat homemade pizza for dinner, have chocolate-chocolate cake for dessert, open presents, and then watch the Season One Doctor Who DVDs we got from the library as a family. For the record, we are now on Season Two!)

I figure that we lead a pretty well-rounded life, and I spend almost as much time reading as I do watching TV, so all those people who think they are so superior because they don't watch TV or don't even have a TV can just sod off.

*smiles*

Those of you who received our 2007 Christmas newsletter know what a difference the DVR has made in our lives. (Seriously- it was life changing, much in the manner of a religious conversion.) So with the DVR all set and ready to go, here is what our TV viewing schedule looks like. This list includes time, program and channel.

8:00- Top Gear (BBCA) (Super funny British car show, *highly* enjoyable even if you don't care about cars)

9:00- Grey's Anatomy (ABC) (Oh Grey's. How you mess with me! The last half of Season 3 and first half of Season 4 were TERRIBLE. The last half of Season 4 was good, but not great. Might have to give you up if you don't improve tout suite.)
9:30- 30 Rock (NBC) (This show is the funniest thing on TV. I *heart* Tina Fey. She's awesome. And she has great glasses.)
10:00- Ace of Cakes (Food Network) (Duff and his bakery crew are so hilarious and random, all at the same time.)

FRIDAY
9:00- Friday Night Lights

Forgive me for a moment while I extole the virtues of Friday Night Lights, which is hands down the VERY BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION right now. I am serious. You need to watch this show. Yes, it's about football. But no- it's about people who happen to love/coach/play football. I have laughed and cried during some point in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE.

It has the most realistic depiction of teenagers ever, gorgeous set and art decoration, phenominal casting and I swear if you don't want to grow up and be JUST LIKE Coach and Tami then there is something wrong with you.

OK, seriously. If that did just not get you to your core (the gorgeous scenes and the music by W.G. Snuffy Walden) then you are OBVIOUSLY COLD AND DEAD INSIDE.

Are you choked up yet? Is your heart racing? I mean, just look! Tim Riggins! Matt Saracen! Julie!! KYLE CHANDLER'S HAIR IS EMOTING ALL OVER THE PLACE.

SATURDAY
8:00- Robin Hood or Doctor Who, depending on the schedule/season (BBCA) (Yeah, we're nerds. :P)
10:00- Graham Norton (BBCA) (Umm, don't watch this show unless you like your humor somewhat left-of-center and British. Or if you're my mom.)

SUNDAY
9:00 AM- Sunday Morning (CBS) (Usually watched no where near Sunday morning :P)
10:00 PM- Mad Men (AMC) (I watch it for the costumes and set decoration. And superb writing and acting.)

This also doesn't include one-off programs or series like Alton Brown's Feasting On series or Masterpiece Theatre (did anyone catch the complete Jane Austen series they did this year?? Amazing!)

So there's our viewing season in a nutshell. Don't call us during those times unless it's an emergency. ;)

Random Thoughts

1. I love the springtime in south Georgia. Except the pollen- hate the pollen.

2. We have less than a month until the end of school! *dances a jig* I'm ready for this school year to be OVER.

3. Nothing to exciting going on around here, which is good. No drama. No craziness. Yes!

4. The stack of "To Read" books on my nightstand is ginormous! And it seems like more arrive in the mail everyday. Oops.

5. Season 2 of The Best Show on Television aka Friday Night Lights came out on DVD yesterday. Mmmm...Tim Riggins! All of the rest of our shows come back off of strike this week with new eipsodes- Ugly Betty, and Grey's Anatomy. How I Met Your Mother and 30 Rock have been back for a few weeks now. And I still need to catch up on the complete Jane Austen series from the BBC that has been showing on Masterpiece on PBS. *sigh* The DVR is so full. All the more reason for school to be over!
