Thoughts on a Thursday

 It always makes me laugh when I see a hipster-type in Leesburg. I want to give them a hug and say, "Dude. Don't try so hard."

It's currently 9:30. I thought it was later than that. Possibly because everyone else has been in bed for at least an hour. The house is dark and quiet. Yessssss...

I've been reading the Mary Russell series and loving it. It's basically well-written Sherlock Holmes fanfiction, which is TOTALLY me wheelhouse. It's also helping me pass the time while waiting for the newest Sherlock series from the BBC. WRITE FASTER, STEVEN MOFFAT!! I NEED MORE BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IN MY LIFE!!

I upgraded my sleeping mask a few weeks ago. Best $10 I ever spent. I'm currently on the search for the perfect white noise app. I have two that I like, but I think I can do better. The energy I expend trying to get an optimal sleeping experience is astounding.

We subscribe to more than a few (but less than a dozen) magazines. The only one I read cover to cover within 24 hours of receiving it?

Entertainment Weekly.

Horning In On Birthdays Since 1981

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELLION!!!



This is my lovely sister Helen who is celebrating her 27th birthday today!!! She is my most favorite sister ever, even though she had to steal some of the attention for herself by being born the day before my 4th birthday. She's been something of a trouble maker ever since. Luckily she has made up for it by giving birth to my adorable nephew and niece. And since I love her SO MUCH, I have a copy of this picture for her, in an 8x10 size! Yes, I do!! It my most favorite picture of her EVER. It's not enough that she's wearing a neck brace- it's also that her eyes have rolled back into her head, making her look like a possessed demon. Awesome.

(And I also have to send out birthday wishes to the lovely Katheryn, who is married to one of my most favorite people in Middleburg. Psst, Katheryn! I have some great pictures of Nathan circa 1995 if you are interested in seeing those. ;D)

That familiar neon orange, it beckons to me

We have a little grocery store up the road called Mike's Country Store. It's very convinient for those times when I've run out of milk or baking powder. Plus they have a ginormous BBQ smoker out front, where they smoke various meats and then sell them in the store, and we can smell it down at our house if the wind is blowing the right way.

They also sell the best off brand Macaroni and Cheese I've ever tasted.



It's a terrific bargain at 3 boxes for $1.39. I may never buy Kraft again. I also feel compelled to call it by its Spanish name. Makes it sound kind of exotic, doesn't it? I bought it for the first time about a month ago. I was babysitting some kids form church so their mother could go to Girls Camp. I picked up a few boxes to feed the troops for lunch, and it was a hit! Even the girls thought it tasted good.

Of course, it could of been the fact that I made it with Half and Half, because I was out of milk.
