Originally he was staying through end of 2010. We're bummed that he's leaving after the non-season, special episode year of 2009. I always get hooked to whoever the Dr. is at the time. I've been kind of bummed that they will be on their 3rd Dr. with not too many years into this.
David Tennant is Dr. #10. Obviously next Dr. is #11. They are only supposed to generate 12 times, so that makes only 13 Doctors in all, if they stick to the original story lines.

I never warmed to Christopher Eccleston, although he was a great actor. I never really thought he had a lot of chemistry with Billie Piper. On the other hand, David Tennant is *seriously* charming, and I think he could have chemistry with a dust mop. ;)
The girls are seriously upset that he is leaving. I don't blame them.
